Although animal testing on Chimpanzees has provided life-changing medical breakthroughs for human beings, the unfortunate reality for these animals is that they live out their lives caged and deprived of a natural existence.

When in captivity, they never went outside or socialized with their peers; essentially they were prisoners for scientific purposes. Their restriction from experiencing anything normal is simply heartbreaking. Finally, the “Humane Society of the United States” are now actively rescuing 1000’s of these aging chimps, some of whom are 50 years of age.

What you will view in the video you are about to watch below, is some of their first experiences of freedom, at Chimp Haven. As it would be unsafe for them to be let out into the wild at their age, this sanctuary will allow them to explore nature and form social bonds that were never possible before.

The footage is so beautifully filmed; you see these older “folks” socializing in such gentle and curious ways; the moment that you see one of the 100 chimps released, get his first view of the sky, is breathtaking.

Although nothing can make up for their imprisoned lab conditions, the fact that they will be able to enjoy the rest of their lives in this natural habitat is heartwarming.
