This 17 Year Old Built His Own Mortgage-Free House. But When You Step Inside Whoa!

image via – youtube.com

One boy’s school project turned into a new lease on life, or actually mortgage-free life, when he ended up building a tiny house for himself. Austin Hay began building his tiny home when he was a fifteen year old freshman in high school and finished it at age seventeen. It all began when he was assigned to do a research project on anything he was passionate about.

His interest in the tiny house movement was already budding and after looking more into it he decided this would be perfect for his assignment. To start, he bought a used trailer for around two thousand dollars and the rest was built up from there. Money he had saved from summer jobs and basic knowledge gained from one woodworking class he had taken were all applied to the project.

After he had framed and put a roof on it he began work on the interior and design elements that would make it compact, comfortable and perfect for what he needs. Many of the items he used in building the house were found at junk yards and are second hand parts, such as the doors, windows and flooring.

He put in a lofted bed and even fit a complete bathroom with a hot water shower and composting toilette. By the time he finished his tiny house, Austin had spent around twelve thousand dollars and gained a lot of knowledge about construction, materials and building in general. He even had an open house for people to come by and check out the finished project.

In the future he plans on living in it through college and beyond, taking it with him wherever he ends up. The video gives a guided tour of the tiny house and shows it in various stages of completion. It includes reactions and interviews with his friends and family as well.

Austin’s sense of pride and joy at accomplishing the home is well earned, and shared by his grandfather, whose interview in the clip is especially touching. Check it out!

Dog Sensed Something Was Different In Her Home. When She Sees The Surprise The Reaction Is PRICELESS

image via – youtube.com

When you have a new baby, it is very important to slowly acclimate your dog to this new situation.  Some dogs can’t tolerate change and a new baby can be really stressful to them.  You must slowly prepare them during the pregnancy.  A good idea would be to play baby noise tapes, and rub baby lotion on your hands so that your cat can get used to the new sounds and smells.

You should set up the nursery furniture a few weeks before the baby arrives so your pup has plenty of time to investigate and get used to the new room. Purdue University did a study where they found 40 percent of children begin their life with a pet in the family.  Of that population 90 percent will live with these pets through their childhood.

Taking care of another living being is a wonderful way to teach your children skills that they will use throughout their lives. This is an amazingly precious moment when Piper the Husky meets his new sister Lily Ann.  According to his human Piper has done a great job being a big brother, and has been very gentle, loving and caring towards Lily Ann.  Watch their adorable first meeting below.

Apparently You Should Never Wear A Hairband Like THIS. The Reason Is Terrifying!

image via – youtube.com

Many girls and women are into the new ribbon hair ties that don’t leave marks when you wear a ponytail.  We use them over and over again, and sometimes wear them on our wrists, in case we decide to put our hair up later.  They get washed from time to time, but I can at least say for myself after watching this cautionary video, definitely not enough!!

The following footage that you are about to watch below, is told by Audrey Kopp whose story is really frightening.  She had been wearing her sparkly hair tie on her wrist, as she always did when not using it in her hair.  She noticed a red mark on her wrist, which she at first thought was a spider bite.  It kept getting more and more inflamed and painful, which luckily got her to go see a doctor.

The unwashed hair tie had picked up bacteria, possibly in part because of the sparkly texture, which caused a really deep infection.  If it had been left untreated, it could have resulted in sepsis, which would have been live threatening!

The doctor had initially given her an antibiotic, but the infection worsened, eventually requiring an emergency surgery! A surgical incision and drainage to remove the puss-filled abscess, by Dr. Amit Gupta at Norton Healthcare, is explained in the video below.

The bacteria from Audree’s hair tie had made it’s way beneath her skin into her pores and hair follicles.  She, in fact, had 3 types of infection: strep, staph and gram-negative.  Listen to Audree’s description of what she went through and how grateful she is that the infection was treated before  “[her] body shut down…and [she had gone] into a coma”.

She and her doctor felt this was so important to share on Facebook; no one would ever dream that placing a hair tie on their wrist, which so many people do without even thinking, could have such dire consequences!  Be sure to wash your hair ties regularly and keep them off your wrists!

What Emerges Out Of This Algae Shocks The Entire Audience!

image via – youtube.com

An octopus’ main defense in the wild is camouflage and mimicry.  This is how they survive and have been around for millions of years. They are also incredible at quick escapes. Other defenses include distraction with the use of ink sacs and autotomising limbs. They are some of the most interesting species on all of planet earth.

Some can change colors, while others can shape shift and look like other predators so that they don’t get eaten. Their disguise and escape skills have given them quite the advantage over other species in the ocean.

In the video below you will see first hand just how good an octopus is at camouflage.  They are true masters in the art of disguise.  What looks to be a piece of algae quickly transforms in front of your eyes.  I had to watch it multiple times just to make sure it was real! This is so awesome. Enjoy! 🙂

The Outside Of This Hobbit Home Is Awesome. But When You See The Inside EPIC!

image via – youtube.com

Meet Simon and Jasmine Saville who have been getting a lot of attention all around the world because of their incredible Hobbit House.  The house took about 2 months to build and only cost about $5,000.  It was built by Simon and his father in law and is completely eco-friendly.

The house was built from tree branches, rock, mud and other earthy materials that really give this house it’s unique vibe.  All the materials were either natural or recycled.  Simon and Jasmine currently live in the house with their two lovely children. This is the real life Lord of The Rings. I would love to live here with Frodo Sam and the rest of the Hobbits and the Wizard Gandolf.

Like many people who have joined the tiny house movement, they were seeking a more simple life, away from the city and the non-stop pace of modern living.  Just watching the video below makes me more relaxed.  I would love to build my own hobbit house one day and have a little hobbit family!

Have You Ever Wondered What Happens To Donated Hair Once It Is Shipped Out? This Is a Must Watch

Wigs For Kids is a non-profit organization that has been providing free hair replacement options and support to children for over 30 years. They mainly treat kids who have suffered hair loss due to chemo and radiation therapy, burns, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, and other medical issues that often cause hair loss.

The change in a child’s self-esteem and confidence can often be seen immediately after they receive their new hair. By providing high quality and custom made hair pieces, Wigs For Kids helps to restore a child’s appearance and the way people respond to them, and alternatively the way they view themselves.

To get an inside look at what goes into making these wigs BuzzFeed followed the hair donation process from start to finish. The first step was going to a salon with Hannah, a young woman who wanted to donate her hair and agreed to have the big cut filmed. The hair was then packaged and sent to the donation center where it was sorted.

Any hair that does not meet strict quality specifications gets separated and the remaining usable hair is sent on the the wig manufacturer. They sew ponytails together, brush the hair and wash it in a chemical bath. Next, a custom made cap is created based on the shape of the future wig owner’s head.

Then the hair colors are blended and hand tied onto the wig one strand at a time to ensure it looks as natural as possible. It can take anywhere from 20-30 ponytails to make one wig. The process is very focused on quality and no shortcuts are taken that would jeopardize the goal of realistic, beautiful hair.

The end of the video shows Bridget receiving her brand new custom made wig, made from Hannah’s donated hair. Bridget is a young girl who has alopecia which caused her hair to fall out. She waits excitedly in anticipation for her new look and can barely sit still. When she finally sees her new hair she cannot help but run her hands through it and once it is on her she lights up and brushes it.

Her mother explains that this is going to change her whole world and they both thank people everywhere who have donated their hair, including Hannah.

After watching this video your bound to feel good and have your faith in the world restored. For more information please go to Wigs For Kids website (http://www.wigsforkids.org/).

This cabinet is a completely unique and one of a kind piece, that has hidden secrets that will blow your mind.  As well as the cabinet being completely amazing, it also has a very interesting history. It was first built in 1778 and finished in 1779 by, David Roentgen, a world renowned carpenter who was a true master of his craft.

He used different types of wood, metals, ivory, mother of pearl and silk to finish this beautiful piece of art.  When he was finished constructing the complex cabinet, Johann Christian Krause pulled it all together by incorporating the mechanical features. This craftsmanship is truly one of a kind and legendary.

Three of these cabinets were made, with slightly different looks and were all sold to European royal families.  This specific piece was bought by King Frederick William II of Prussia. The most mind blowing part about this cabinet is that it was built before there was any modern technology.

This is such a heart warming video, that shows how important having a dog is to a young child.  A lot of people say they would rather have a dog than a child.  But, I think having both is the best combination.  Having a dog in the house is one the greatest things a family can do for their child.

Purdue University did a study where they found 40 percent of children begin their life with a pet in the family. Of that population 90 percent will live with these pets through their childhood. Taking care of another living being is a wonderful way to teach your children skills that they will use throughout their lives.  They will learn responsibility, nurturing, comforting and loving.

In the video below Mom finally catches her Boston Terrier’s morning ritual with her baby.  You can tell this wild eyed crazy Boston Terrier loves his little human.  This dog has a huge smile on his face as he jumps in and out of the baby’s crib.  His little human seems to enjoy the entertainment more than anyone.  A happy dog makes a happy human.

These two look like they are going to be best friends for life! 🙂
