This Guy Places Colored Sand On His Special Table. When He Does THIS I’m Mesmerized

Auditory Synesthesia is known as the rare ability to see sounds. For most of us we can imagine what this would be like but for some musicians like Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder this sense is a reality. Meet musician Kenichi Kanazawa who has created an amazing apparatus which will give us some insight on what seeing sound is really like.

Kenichi uses colored sand and then sends pulses of sound frequencies through this specially designed table. The sand begins to to bounce around and form different shapes. As he changes the frequency so do the shapes of the san as they morph into the most beautiful perfect patterns!

The whole thing is beautiful and rather hypnotizing. It is really amazing to see visually what is going on inside our ears.  Imagine every time you are listening to any sort of music, vibration or any other sound this is happening inside of us. This demonstration completely blew us away and we knew we had to post it for everyone to see.  Enjoy!

I’ve Been Cutting Cake The Wrong Way This Whole Time. How Did I Not Know This?

There is a right way and a wrong way to cut a cake.  Chances are you, and most everyone you know, have been doing it the wrong way your entire life.  This video from YouTube user Numberphile  explains and demonstrates the proper way to cut up a delicious slice of cake so that when you store the leftover pieces for later they stay moist.  No one wants to eat leftover cake that has become crusty, hardened, and dried out, so check it out!

The method was first described in a December 20th 1906 issue of Nature Magazine.  British mathematician, Sir Francis Galton, eloquently wrote in a letter to the editor “The ordinary method of cutting out a wedge is very faulty.”  He then went on to describe the ideal way to cut up a round cake based on mathematical and scientific principles.  Starting in the center of the cake, with a long knife, cut two parallel lines completely through it.

Remove the rectangular segment from the middle as that piece is for eating.  You should end up with two halves that can be pushed together.  This closes the cake into a smaller version of its former shape, thus allowing the inside edges of the cut parts to stay fresh longer.  For the second slice, cut another central cross-section at a right angle, or 90 degrees, to the original cut.

Now you should have 4 cake segments that can be pushed back together into an even smaller round cake.  All edges should be sealed in and will remain deliciously moist for much longer. The technique is not what you’d expect but when it’s all said and done it makes perfect sense.

When it comes time to store it in the refrigerator the probability of exposed edges drying out is dramatically decreased since they are sealed in.  Now the next time you are at a party where cake is being served you can impress everyone with your scientifically tested cake cutting skills!

This Guy Pours Molten Aluminum Into His Watermelon. The Result Is An Awesome Surprise!

Sometimes the most unexpected scientific experiments can produce art?!  Now that winter is finally over and we are getting close to watermelon season let’s watch an awesome science experiment! “The Backyard Scientist” of YouTube fame wanted to see what would happen if he heated up aluminum and poured it into a water-melon that had been partially hollowed out.  What made him come out with the idea?  He was expecting an explosion.

Well, that is not what happened.  The molten aluminum found its way through the watermelon through tiny channels that  “connected the seed chambers to each other, and this caused this awesome casting to happen”, said the experimenter.  Unintentional art was the result! Mother Nature works in mysterious ways and this watermelon experiment is no exception.

The most intricate casting occurred, which resulted in sculptures that many modern art lovers would be pleased to own.  I wonder how much this would go for at the right art auction? Anyway enjoy this awesome experiment, show the kids and remember, don’t try this at home!

Video: Watch What Happens When You Light Wool On Fire. The Result Is Surprisingly Unexpected!

Around 1.9 million years ago humans first learned how to create and control fire.  This is arguably one of the biggest leaps in human evolution ever.  Ancient humans utilized the fire to stay warm on freezing nights, scare off predators trying to hunt them, and of course cook delicious food.  This evolutionary step in history gave mankind the ultimate leg up over the rest of the animals.

We now use fire in a million different ways, and the best part is we are masters at controlling it.  There are so many awesome things that we can now do with it.  With the help of science, we are able to manipulate fire to do just about anything we want it to do. This brings us to our featured fire video which is just totally awesome!

In the video below, I was blown away by these fire tricks.  Some of these tricks were so amazing I had to watch them twice. Their is a disclaimer at the beginning of the video that warns you not to try this on your own because they were all done by trained professionals.  If you do try some of these be very careful and remember, if you play with fire you might get burned.

She Thought She Had A Really Bad Eye Infection. But The Truth Is Way More Scary!

A woman had been plagued by an uncomfortable and itchy sensation in her eye for several days so she finally decided to visit an eye doctor. He found something quite unusual and very uncommon; eye lice in her lashes. The woman, Ms. Zhang, hails from Northeast China and had suffered from a stroke two days prior to seeking medical help for her eye problem.

She’d had an annoying, itchy problem with her eyes for some time and ignored it until it became unbearable. At her request, her son inspected her eye and he immediately noticed a few extremely tiny, crab-like bugs crawling around on her lashes. Her eye doctor confirmed and diagnosed her eye lice problem and promptly removed them with a pair of fine forceps. When it was all done, he had pulled over twenty of the tiny parasites off her eyelid.

While most people know about head lice, the tiny insects that live on the scalp, few people are aware of eye lice. Eye lice are almost microscopic, white parasites that live in the eyebrows and eyelashes of people where they feed off of blood and skin.

Adults will attach themselves to the skin around a lash, lay eggs which are called nits, and 6-10 days later they hatch. After 15 days the nits are full grown and they start to lay more eggs, thus causing an infestation. Symptoms of eye lice include sudden and extreme itchiness on your eyelids, tearing, feeling tired or ill, small red spots from lice bites, eye redness, and conjunctivitis.

To treat the problem, a doctor has to remove them individually and often will prescribe an antibiotic which suffocates the lice. Harsh, commercial chemicals are not used since they can easily hurt or damage sensitive eyes. This type of lice is very uncommon and most often stems from contact with either pets or eyelash extensions. Hopefully, this is the only case of it you will ever see in your lifetime, it looks really gross and painful.
