Have You Ever Noticed THIS On The Bottom Of Your Water Bottle? THIS Is What It Means!
image via – shutterstock.com
When it comes to quenching thirst, nothing works better than plain old water. Most of us carry some with us and toss a bottle of water into our bags or car and at work and home we drink from water coolers all the time. All of these water containers, jugs, and bottles are not created equally and some are made from plastics that may be harmful to your health.
If you want what’s best for you and your family you need to know which kinds are the safest and healthiest. The best and clearest way to determine if the plastic bottle you’re about to buy or use is safe or not is to look for the number on the bottle.
All plastic bottles are labeled somewhere with a number between 1 and 7, usually it’s located on the bottom. The number is surrounded by three arrows and it’s there to indicate what type of plastic the bottle is made out of. It’s important to know these numbers because some are better than others.
In the accompanying Howcast video Allegra goes over which ones are safe versus the more toxic types. She has a great tip on how to remember and differentiate the good from the bad with the saying: “1-2-4-5 stay alive, 3-6-7 straight to heaven.” This generally means that plastic bottles and containers numbered 1, 2, 4, and 5 are better, safer, and less toxic than the ones labeled with a 3, 6, or 7.
The safest and all around best way to avoid any of the potential harmful effects caused by plastics is to not use any plastic in the first place. Instead, try to use ceramic or glass containers whenever possible, especially to hold or store food and beverage products in.
Of course, it’s very difficult to completely remove all types of plastics from your life when they’re so widely used in this day and age. When you do use plastics, make sure it’s the types labeled 1, 2, 4, or 5, as well as those that are labeled BPA free.
BPA is a dangerous synthetic compound that is highly carcinogenic and often used in many plastics. Because it’s so common lots of plastic water bottles and containers have BPA in them, so try to avoid those at all costs.
The next time you pick up a bottle of water or go to buy some at the store, make sure to check the number on it first. Please pass this information along so everyone knows to do the same. The more awareness we have, the better the choices we can make, and we can all stay as healthy as possible.

This Mostly Unknown Aspect Of Bic Pens Have Saved Thousands Of Children’s Lives. I Had No Idea!
image via – shutterstock.com
Bic Pens were invented in 1949, and have been a “go to” for kids when they buy their school supplies, and adults when they need to buy some pens in bulk. However, very few people are aware that when these pens were designed, they included a potentially life-saving ingenious invention.
We all know how people in general like to bite on the ends of pens, and children in particular tend to do this mindlessly. A pen top could easily be inhaled and be choked on by children…but not the Bic top.
Have you ever wondered what that little hole is at the very top of the Bic pen top? If you never noticed and have one on hand, check it out. With great forethought that hole was put there to prevent children from choking to death!
That small hole allows air to go through, should the top be swallowed, which keeps the person breathing until the top can be dislodged. Because this invention was so successful, many other pen manufacturers have incorporated it into their designs, in order to save lives.
The video you are about to watch below is a public service announcement made in The UK, showing how to prevent a child from choking. Note that it incorporates another move before performing the “Heimlich Maneuver”. Additionally in the US you call 911 if necessary, rather than 999 abroad.

If You Have a Pair of Crocs, You Should Toss Them In The Trash Now.
Here we are in the heat of summer in many parts of the world, trying to stay cool and comfortable. As we navigate the imposing heat outside we not only wear more breathable clothes, but our footwear needs to allow our feet to breathe. Sandals have been the answer for hundreds, if not thousands of years…but they have evolved in modern times.
“Flip flops” have been around for many years, as well as the infamous “Crocs” that became the summer “go-to” more recently. For quite some time, the medical profession has warned about the dangers of flip flops, for the very reason people love them…ease of putting them on and slipping them off. They have now issued a serious safety warning about wearing Crocs as well, as an all day replacement for shoes.
When Crocs were introduced to the public, the company promoted them as not only comfortable, but actually possessing benefits for the feet that were therapeutic. They made these claims without any research to back them up. The problem lies in wearing these footwear all day, according to podiatrist Dr. Tom Beasley, because without containing a shank they provide no support for the foot. For children, who are still growing, the instability of Crocs can cause bone deformities and splayed feet. As children grow, so do their bones and tendons in their feet, requiring footwear that is supportive.
As you will hear in the VIDEO you are about to watch below, Crocs can pose the safety hazard of getting caught on ESCALATORS, causing serious injuries. There have been multiple reports of such injuries, resulting in law suits against the Crocs company. Unstable shoes like Crocs and flip flops have been known to get caught on gas pedals and brakes in cars as well, resulting in automobile accidents. After watching the footage below, let us know what you think about wearing this footwear out in the world.

Police Are Warning People That Turning Off THIS Light In Your Home Could Be a Dangerous Risk!
image via – youtube.com
As a mom of two single young adult daughters, who live alone, their safety is always on my mind. They are fiercely independent, have learned some self-defense, and carry an alert device when they are out in the world. All that being said, they can never be too safe, and decreasing their vulnerability when they are home alone is very important.
The following video offers invaluable safety tips for women (and certainly can be used by men). Unfortunately we live in a world that has grown more dangerous on many fronts; being aware of potential dangers when you are at home, and remedying them so you can rest easy, is a huge plus.
The safety video offered by Officer Kandy Perry and the Fox 4 News team, is geared towards women, but truly can be used by anyone to keep from falling prey to home intruders. I was amazed at how many things that wouldn’t naturally occur to me, both signal and allow twisted individuals to invade your home.
She actually starts with a scenario in a parking lot, as you are going toward your car, with your purse in the cart. Not only can you lose your valuables, but important information that can lead a criminal to your home is now in their hands. Officer Perry goes from that scenario to an amazing safety trick as you drive into your garage, and then on into your home.
Listen for the tip on what lights on, off and in which sequence can go a long way towards preventing intruders.

These Are The Top 5 Phones That Give Off The Highest Radiation. Is Yours On The List?
image via – youtube.com
Just about everyone owns, or at least uses, a cell phone these days. Even some kids who can’t speak yet have access to the the devices, they are simply everywhere. In the span of a few short years they have become widely available and increasingly affordable. While they make life all the more convenient, there remains a lot of questions and concerns about whether or not they are completely safe to use.
On of the main issues surrounding cell phone safety is whether or not they increase the risk of developing cancer or tumors in the neck and head areas. This concern is borne out of the fact that cell phone antennas emit radiofrequency energy waves, which are a form of non-ionizing radiation that our bodies can absorb.
Experts have been divided for years, and remain split to this day, as to whether or not the radiofrequency energy given off by cell phones leads to a higher risk of developing cancer. In addition, many other factors come into play, such as how much time an individual spends on their phone, where they hold and store it, the type of cell phone used, and so forth.
Regardless of what the answer may turn out to be, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been exercising oversight over the levels of radiation that cell phones are allowed to emit. In terms of health and safety standards, FCC regulations state that all cell phones sold in the US must be tested for their SAR, or Specific Absorption Rate.
That value is the rate at which radiation from a cell phone is being absorbed into the human body when the phone is held up next to the ear. The maximum rate allowed is 1.6 watts per kilogram of body weight. A device whose SAR exceeds this amount is deemed unfit for human use and thus banned from being sold.
CNET, the leading online tech review website, has been keeping track of the SAR for every cell phone that they have ever reviewed. In the clip below CNET senior editor Donald Bell lays out the top five cell phones with the highest levels of radiation, or SAR scores, which can also be found right here:
1) Motorola Droid Maxx, SAR 1.54. Sold by Verizon Wireless 2) Motorola Droid Ultra, SAR 1.54. Sold by Verizon Wireless 3) Motorola Moto E, SAR 1.5 4) Alcatel One Touch Evolve, SAR 1.49. Sold by T-Mobile 5) Huawei Vitria, SAR 1.49. Sold by metroPCS
The worst cell phone on the list, the Motorola Droid Max, is also one of the priciest and best rated ones. Mr. Bell notes that CNET reviewers gave it 4.5 stars and praised it as an “outstanding phone” thanks in part to its 15 hour battery life. Numbers one and two are the more expensive models on the list, while the remaining three are comparatively cheaper android phones.
The next time you go to pick out a new cell phone, be sure to look up what the SAR is for any that you like. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and to make informed choices that are best, and healthiest, for ourselves.

This Boy Felt Sick And Doctors Thought He Just Had A Bad Cold. Then They Noticed THIS
image via – youtube.com
This is a cautionary tale for all parents, grandparents and any childcare giver. When we have kids we are careful to childproof our homes, hoping to safeguard our children from getting into anything harmful. Children fill our lives with so much love; the downside of loving someone so much is the fear that anything could hurt them.
The Rauch family tragically discovered that there is no way to avoid all risk of danger despite the fact that they had tried to do so. Four years ago, their then 1-year-old son Emmett, became ill with what they initially thought was a bad cold.
Strangely his condition kept getting worse until this sweet little boy ended up in critical condition fighting for his life. The video you are about to watch below was made by Emmett’s parents so that they could make other parents aware of a little known danger that lurks in remote controls and other electronics.
They never thought twice about their little boy playing with the remote control until the unthinkable happened; he swallowed a small button-like lithium battery after he easily removed the back of the TV remote. They want to share this danger with everyone, as Emmett nearly lost his life from this tragic accident.
Emmett’s condition went from cold-like symptoms to a high fever and lethargy that led his parents to bring him to the ER. An x-ray revealed the swallowed battery which had leaked acid, severely damaging Emmett’s esophagus and digestive tract.
This courageous little boy has survived 65 surgeries in the past four years; his condition has improved greatly, but as you will hear his mom discuss in this video, Emmett will have a lifetime of physical problems, due to the damage suffered from the battery.
The Rauch’s have told their story in this video, in the hopes that it will be shared with many people and perhaps save a child’s life. That is also why they started an organization, “Emmett’s fight”, to help raise awareness of the danger that lurks in these tiny button like batteries, that are so attractive to a curious young child.
