Video: These Elephants Always Gather To Hug This Woman. The Reason Tore My Heart Up!

Whenever we hear stories about orphanages there is a good chance it is going to pull at your heart strings.  The video below is no exception, even though the elephants in this video have gone on to live happy lives.  The orphans all come from East Africa and were abandoned when they were less than 2 years of age.  With the price of ivory increasing, more and more elephants are being killed and their orphaned babies are being left alone and in need of care.

The orphanage is in Kenya and has been around for over 30 years.  The elephant sanctuary is huge and it has to be, in order to accommodate these majestic animals.  Each elephant has their own private room/dormitory.  There is also a group bathing area, dining area, and a fun playground.

There are usually 14 orphans at the sanctuary at one time, and they usually spend a few years there until they are reintroduced to the bush.  CEO and head nurse Daphne Sheldrick founded the orphanage and has been working with these animals for over 50 years.  What Daphne and the crew do for these elephants is truly incredible.

Strange Raven Squawked At Them For an Hour. They Looked Closer and Realized He Was Begging For Help

Seeing any animal hurt or in obvious distress is a disheartening situation that anyone could find themselves faced with. While domestic animals and friendly pets can usually be helped, it’s a different story when it’s a wild, untamed animal. There’s usually not much you can do to really help them out without risking your own health and safety or potentially aggravating the problem and making it worse.

Mother nature works in mysterious ways however, and sometimes there is something we can do for a wild animal in need. Such was the case for one woman when a wild raven called upon her for help. Gertie Cleary was at her home in Nova Scotia when she heard the black bird making a loud racket outside. When she went to investigate she noticed the young fledgling had perched on the fence in her yard, whereupon it screeched and squawked endlessly!

As much as she tried to ignore the noisy bird, after awhile she just couldn’t any longer. That’s when she decided to go outside to take an up-close look at the Raven. Her daughter went along with her and they slowly approached the distressed bird. As the pair drew close they could finally see what was bothering it, porcupine quills were stuck in the poor little bird’s body. They counted three in the side of his face, one in his wing, and knew that his survival depended on the quills being removed.

That’s when Gertie went into save the day mode. She grabbed a pair of protective gloves and slowly went about earning the Raven’s trust. The bird didn’t try to fly away or bite her and soon she was able to gently stroke its feathers. After a little more petting and cooing she moved in and managed to quickly pull one of the quills out of the Raven and then, going off her momentum, she extracted another one.

The second quill caused the poor Raven to cry out in pain. Yet even though it clearly hurt, the bird stayed perched on the fence and didn’t try to fly away or threaten her. Instead, it seemed to know or sense that Gertie was trying to help and meant no harm, which was a good thing because the last quill proved the hardest to get out. By that point the bird had already gone though enough, but with just a little more coaxing it was finally removed!

With all the porcupine quills out the Raven was now free to fly away without being hurt or hindered by sharp barbs poking into his body, and yet he stuck around. He remained close by for the rest of the day and Gertie and her daughter even ended up naming him Wilfred.

The next day when they went to check for Wilfred he was nowhere to be seen and had left. He must have recovered enough to head out and continue on his journey. This video of his rescue clearly shows just how quick witted and smart Ravens are. The bird knew exactly who to turn to for help and thankfully Gertie not only recognized the situation, but also took time to safely remove the quills.

Check it out. Hopefully some good can come from this and it will inspire more people to help or save an animal the next time they have a chance to do so! Note: If you are having trouble viewing the video Turn your Mobile device or iPad Horizontal.

Sad Circus Lion Spent 13 Years Locked in a Tiny Cage. Now Watch When He’s Freed For The First Time.

After spending his entire life locked in a tiny metal cage, the video you are about to watch below, captures this lion’s first moments of freedom after being rescued.  For 13 long years Will had been forced to perform in a traveling circus, before the Brazilian animal sanctuary Rancho dos Gnomos came to finally release him from this awful captivity, where he was confined to a cramped cage when not performing.

When his cage is opened, it takes Will a moment to realize what has happened, before he jumps from confinement and romps towards the earth, grass, rocks and trees.  He revels in feeling nature beneath his paws with such obvious delight, that it brought tears to my eyes.

Rolling onto his back in the grass and experiencing all of the smells and textures of nature beneath his paws, as he explores his new home, brings home the importance of allowing wild animals to be in a natural environment and the cruelty of this deprivation.  The heartlessness of animals being held captive in order to entertain humans, instead of being able to live their lives in their natural habitat, should never be allowed or tolerated.

The happy ending for Will, according to Marcus Pompeo, the lion caretaker and founder of the sanctuary, where he “loved to lie in the grass and look at the sky..[and] was a very happy lion”, is heartwarming.  The fact that he was able to spend the last five years of his life in this beautiful sanctuary, before dying in  2011, was a wonderful thing.  Hopefully sharing his story and this video will help to free other big cats who continue to be enslaved to this day.

Pizza Delivery Guy Realized She Was Desperately Mouthing ‘Help Me’. He Immediately Attempts The Unthinkable!

image via – youtube.com

There’s no question that pizza delivery drivers see their fair share of strange things while out on the job.  They’re tasked with going to many different homes where people tend to be mostly relaxed and off-guard. After all, we feel safe and want to be comfortable in our houses.  While many people might answer the door in their pajamas or more questionable outfits, that’s usually the extent of any possible awkwardness.

For one Domino’s pizza delivery driver in Waldo, Wisconsin, the situation he walked into one night wasn’t awkward, instead it was scary and potentially dangerous.  Joey Grundl was out delivering a pizza to a residential address and after he rang the doorbell a middle aged man named Dean Hoffman answered the door. As the man paid for the pizza, Joey noticed that behind him stood a woman who he assumed must be his wife or girlfriend.  The woman pointed to her eye, which was bruised and black, then mouthed “help me, call the police.”

Even though he was stunned and alarmed, Joey didn’t let his emotions show.  Instead he finished the delivery and walked calmly back to his car. He didn’t want to let on that he’d seen the woman and risk escalating the situation.  As soon as he was safe inside his car, he called 911 and explained what he had seen.

Officers were dispatched to the address and when they approached the house they could see Hoffman in the window looking out at them.  After they knocked, he opened the door but blocked the entrance with his body. The woman knew the police were there and couldn’t see her, so she began to yell for help and the cops forced their way inside to rescue the trapped lady.

According to the woman, Hoffman was her ex-boyfriend and he had forcibly entered her house earlier that afternoon.  She’d told him to leave and had tried to call 911 but he ripped the phone out of her hands and dragged her away. A physical altercation ensued with Hoffman shoving and punching her in the face as she tried to escape.  He threatened her and at one point tied her up with a power cord and gagged her with a towel, which made it very hard for her to breathe. The woman thought she was going to die but when Hoffman decided to order a pizza, she was given a chance to be saved.

When Joey arrived to drop the pie off, she silently asked him for help, and he answered by calling the police and reporting what he’d seen.  In the end, the woman was rescued and Hoffman was arrested on multiple felony charges of burglary, kidnapping, strangulation and suffocation, false imprisonment, and intimidation of a victim.  When Joey was told that he had probably saved a life, he just smiled and said “yeah, I guess.” He was simply doing his job and the right thing but ended up a hero in the process!

Dog Locked In a Barn For Years and Grew 35 Pounds of Fur. Now Watch His Transformation After Rescue.

Year after year a dog named Lazarus was kept outside, all alone in a dirty, drafty barn stall. His owners seemed to have all but forgotten about him and beyond food and water he received little other care, let alone attention and love. It was only when his owner became terminally ill and asked a neighbor to feed Lazarus that anyone knew what terrible conditions the poor dog was being held in.

When the neighbor stopped by with his girlfriend, a groomer named C (who prefers not to be named), they were shocked to discover the level of neglect and squalor that Lazarus had been forced to endure. Dirt and feces had built up so much that the barn stall door had to be dug out just so anyone could even reach him. In the middle of all this filth was Lazarus, who appeared to be a giant mound of dirty white fur. Knowing that something needed to be done right away C called in her friend, fellow groomer Jessica Kincheloe, and they set about rescuing the dog.

After obtaining the owner’s permission, the women freed Lazarus from the squalid barn stall and set about shaving off his fur. By the time they found him he had been neglected for so long that his fur had completely matted up. This made it nearly impossible for him to move and the heavy, knotted scruffs of hair were tugging and pulling at his skin, causing him debilitating pain and suffering. They had to shave him entirely and took off an incredible 35 pounds of fur. By the time they were done Lazarus looked like a completely different dog, and felt like one too.

You can see him in the accompanying video taking his first steps after having his coat shaved. He’s kinda wobbly, unsteady, and unsure of himself because not only is he 35 pounds lighter and finally able to move without pain, he’s also not used to attention or love. After checking him out it was discovered that his tail had been broken and his muscles were severely under-developed. This was caused by the heavily matted fur which made movement awkward and difficult for him.

While his recovery going forward will be focused on gaining physical strength, much of it will also be emotional. Lazarus is not used to people, being indoors, or the fast hectic pace of life, but he’s working on it.

He was eventually taken in by the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue and placed in a foster home with one of their rescue workers in Virginia. According to the rescue group, ‘His eyes are getting brighter, he is starting to see affection and is slowly becoming steadier on his feet. He has yet to make a peep and can become overwhelmed easily, so we go at his pace on everything.’ Slowly but surely he’ll come around and settle into his new surroundings.

After being neglected and deprived of love for the past 7 years of his life, he’s just beginning to learn how to trust people. As sad as that may be, Lazarus has been given a second chance at leading a normal, love-filled life, and there’s hope that he can now live the rest of it in comfort and peace.

Whenever His Favorite Human Rubs His Face This Giant Lynx Makes The Most Adorable Sound Ever

When you think of a Lynx, chances are a big kitty happily purring in utter contentment does not come to mind! However, that’s exactly how Max the Canada Lynx acts when his caretaker pets him and gives him a nice relaxing head massage. Just like his domestic feline relatives, Max is partial to a good ear, cheek, and chin scratch. In fact, he loves it so much that he rolls over on his back and purrs like an engine. Hearing his sweet rumble is so therapeutic and relaxing, if you listen to this you’ll be falling asleep before you know it!

While the Canada Lynx may be one of the most elusive and wise looking animals in North America who do their best to avoid human contact, Max is not fully wild. He is also not fully tame or domesticated either. He was born in captivity at a zoo but he was rescued, and these days he lives in his own indoor/outdoor enclosure with his caretaker, Bernadette Hoffman, in upstate New York.

She runs a program called Wildlife Education by Bernie which Max is a part of. He’s an education animal ambassador who helps teach school children and the general public about the ongoing need to both protect and respect our planet and the endangered species who call it home.

For centuries the Canada Lynx had endured and survived despite hunters who trap and kill them for their fur. In addition to hunting, an overall loss of habitat has led to their steady decline, so much so that in March of 2002 they were added to the endangered species list as threatened. Hopefully their population and numbers will rebound back to healthy levels.

Until then, wildlife ambassadors like Max will continue to raise awareness and spread hope for the survival of all threatened and endangered species everywhere. Check out his beautiful face and listen to the sweet purring noises he makes, they’ll definitely make you relax and feel at ease!
