THIS Lake In Oregon Completely Evaporated and Dried Out! Then a Mysterious and Scary Ghost Town Was Revealed!

In 1955 the town of Old Detroit was officially abandoned, any and all residents were ordered out by the US government. Soon afterwards water flooded in and all of the buildings and whatever else had been left behind was swallowed up by a new reservoir in Marion County, Oregon. From that point on, the town and surrounding area was called Detroit Lake, which today supplies water to the capital city of Salem and other nearby towns.
When the region experiences low rainfall and a prolonged drought, water levels at the lake inevitably drop. In 2015 the lake had reached a record low of 143 feet below capacity and things that had long ago been buried underwater were once again out in the open. One relic from the past that was spotted was a 19th century utility wagon laying on its side in the muck. A still in-tact cast iron plate on it showed that it was made by the Milburn Wagon Company of Toledo, Ohio and historians have estimated it to be about 130 years old.
It stayed in excellent shape all those years because it’d been buried at the bottom of the lake in a low oxygen environment. It’s brief exposure to air and sunlight probably damaged it more than the 100+ years being underwater did and thankfully its location was kept a secret by those who saw it. In addition to the never before seen wagon, a cement lined octagonal pit was also discovered. However, no one has been able to figure out what it could be or what it was once used for.
The history of the lake and surrounding area is just as interesting as the random things that can be spotted in the mud when water levels drop. Founded in 1880, the town of Old Detroit sprung up as a place originally meant to house the men who were working on the Oregon Pacific Railroad. When the railroad went bust, it became a place where primarily farmers, loggers and their families settled to work the land. At one time there was a school and cafes, a hardware store, movie theater, tavern and church all dotting the streets. Life was good in the quiet picturesque rural community, but there were issues.
The main problem facing the area was that the Santiam River, part of the Willamette River basin, often flooded and was unpredictable. Snowmelt from the Cascades and rainfall led to severe floods that raced down the canyon and valleys destroying everything in their path. After years of expensive floods that wiped out families and farms downstream, Congress finally passed the Flood Control Act of 1938. It provided for dams to be built that would control the flooding and generate electricity. Detroit Dam was one of them and by the time it was finished it measured 1,580 long, 360 feet high, and could hold 455,000 acre-feet of water.
However, before Detroit Dam could be put into operation, the town’s several hundred residents had to be relocated. They’d asked the government for land to re-site the city on but were denied and so they turned to a local timber baron, A.B. Hammond, who was more accommodating. He developed an old logging camp in the area and divided it up into lots which he sold to the displaced residents and other newer arrivals.
Finally in 1955 the dam was operational, and the North Santiam River went from being a swift moving, sometimes raging river, to a huge lake that covered the city of Old Detroit. The town has been sitting at the bottom of the reservoir ever since and rarely makes an appearance. Only when the water levels drop off super low does anything from the past appear and 2015 was the last time that happened.

THIS Guy Discovers a Strange Hidden Cave. But What He Finds Inside Left Him STUNNED!

Since the beginning of humankind we have always been drawn to caves.Caves have given humanity shelter for thousands of years. From stunning Mammoth Cave National Park In Kentucky, USA to the Blue Grotto on The Capri Island on the southern tip of Italy. These magical places are always fascinating and a lot of the times they have very distinct and interesting histories.
This brings us to today’s story featuring a man named Michael Scott (not from the show the office lol) who is a pro-photographer capturing amazing picture from all around the world. One morning he was tipped off by a local that there is allegedly a magical cave towards the old English farmhouse.
Michael never one to pass up an adventure or potential photo shoot was intrigued. So intrigued that he prepped for his trip for this mysterious caves. He arrived in the area, when some people living locally told him, the best way to find the caves, is to find the rabbits, they always congregate at the cave.
So he took their advice and began exploring the landscape trying to spot the place which apparently is the evening meeting place for the forest dwelling bunnies. Micheal searched and searched, seconds into minutes, minutes into hours when he accidentally stumbled on what looked like the entrance to the cave of wonder he had heard so much about.
The crevice where the cave opening began was quite small, but he just had a gut feeling that something very special awaited him inside the megalith rock structure. He slowly went through the entrance and then found himself in a world he couldn’t of even imagined in his wildest dreams. His gut was right, as he looked there were many pathways, differently levels, rooms and layers. He had hit a gold mine as his pictures were going to be totally awesome!
The cave was almost like an onion, every time you got through one layer/chamber it would open up to another and another and another, this cave was big, really big! Not only were they huge, but it seemed like somebody or many people put a lot of time into carving out certain cave rooms, with intricate patterns, beautiful shapes molded by masters of their craft.
One thing Michael did notice was that it seemed like they had been abandoned for 100’s maybe even 1000’s of years. Were they prehistoric? Probably not due to the technical skill displayed in these mysterious yet magical cave rooms. Could they have possibly been Medieval? This seemed probably more likely because the style and look of the interior did certainly have a Medieval vibe to it.

The Very Strange and Surprising Reason Women Began Shaving Their Armpits!

Ok, so this is not a big statement to get women to stop shaving or waxing. That is a completely personal choice, but the point of the video you are about to watch below, opens up a discussion and historical perspective on attitudes towards women’s body hair. I found it particularly interesting since I have my own esthetic reactions to women with long underarm hair.
Shaving underarm hair wasn’t even a notion at the turn of the 20th century. For that matter women having their God-given leg hair was just as normal. However, when the fashion changed for women to wear sleeveless dresses, the media, which dictates what is acceptable, began promoting ads that were shaming of underarm hair.
An example of an early ad that created shame around armpit hair said: “The fastidious woman today must have immaculate armpits if she is to be unembarrassed.” It sounds shocking to hear such rhetoric now, but if you really think about it, this was just the first of a long line of fashion marketing that shamed women about their natural state of being.
It seems somewhat obvious that women have body hair in many of the same places as men, because nature meant for it to be there for adaptive reasons. I think it can be said that we all hate the shaving or waxing process, yet we succumb to the social pressure to do so.
We actually feel gross when we are hair-laden and sexy when it’s gone, because that is the social norm that we have completely internalized. It takes a lot of courage to counter the social norms for what makes a woman feel attractive and sexy. Going against the social norms is really hard to do, but if you are a woman who hates the hairless social norm, it can really be empowering to do your own thing.
There will always be societal fashion and beauty standards that are idealized; following this ideal or not should allow for freedom of expression. The more people show individuality, the greater will be the spectrum of acceptability, which will promote healthier self-esteem and body image.
This video is really enlightening about the evolution of how shaving armpits became “mandatory”. It highlights current celebrities who are brave enough to counter the social hairless norm “loud and proud”. I hope you enjoy watching the following footage and that it will open up a consciousness about the choices we make as women.

What Does The Heart Line On Your Hand Reveal About Your Life?
