Pickle lovers everywhere can rejoice and dive deep into a jar of the yummy, salty, sour tasting cucumbers because it turns out that they’re better for us than previously thought! It’s not only pickles that do a body good, but all fermented foods and drinks can boost our health. So the next time you get a craving for something crisp and salty, snack on a few pickles and improve your social life in the process.

You’re probably wondering exactly how can a pickle make my life better and the explanation to that end can be found in a number of relatively new studies that have come out in recent years. In one study, completed by researchers at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, hard evidence was found that the bacteria living in our digestive systems is directly linked to our brain chemistry and behavior. That means the trillions of bacteria in our guts can have a noticeable effect on our mental health and wellness.

Furthermore, researchers at the College of William and Mary found that young adults who ate a diet rich in fermented foods, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, other pickled veggies, kefir, kombucha and more, experienced lower levels of social anxiety than those who did not eat fermented foods. According to Matthew Hilimire, an assistant professor in the department of psychology who co-authored the William and Mary study, the fermented foods had an “anxiolytic effect” on subjects, which in layman’s terms means that they reduced anxiety.

The findings of these two studies can be linked because fermented foods are a major source of probiotics, which help stimulate the growth of healthy, beneficial bacteria in our intestines. That means pickles and other types of fermented foods can work wonders at balancing the bacteria found in our digestive systems. In turn, this can have a profound impact on our overall mood and state of mind because we now know that our gut health is essential to our overall mental health and wellness.

The brain-gut link boils down to this basic premise; a healthy stomach and brain leads to mood stability and therefore less anxiety, depression, and irritability. By simply eating more fermented foods you can positively boost your mental health and improve your social life. You’re less likely to feel so shy, self-conscious, embarrassed, or anxious around others, and that can only be a good thing.

The research into fermented foods is ongoing and scientists are looking at alternative ways to help treat anxiety disorders by ways other than medication. Perhaps in the future we will pop a pickle instead of a pill and that’s awesome!

Apparently I’ve Been Peeling Oranges Wrong My Entire Life. This Is So Good To Know.

Peeling an orange should be an easy task to do, at least that’s what we all have assumed at some point in our citrus eating lives! However, the sad truth is that most of us have no clue what we’re doing and end up making a big, sticky mess in the process. It turns out that there is a much better way to peel an orange than going in blind. So if you have ever struggled through attempts at peeling one open, you need to see this video.

The accompanying clip shows you exactly how to properly go about peeling a ripe, juicy, delicious orange without making a mess. The method is everything you’d want it to be; quick, easy, efficient, simple. All that you really need is a sharp knife and in less than sixty seconds you’ll be done. This technique will also reduce the chances of getting orange juice sprayed in your eyes, which is always a painful experience that no one ever enjoys.

Here is the best way to peel an orange without making a sticky mess. First, place the orange securely on a flat surface so it sits length-wise. Take a sharp knife and carefully cut off both ends of the orange. Next, make a slit down through the middle, but only cut to the center and then stop. This is key to this trick and you want to still have one piece that’s all in-tact, so don’t cut all the way through the orange!

Now grasp the orange at each side of the slit you just made and pull down sideways to split it neatly open. It should unfold to reveal the delicious inner fruit pieces and now you can remove any seeds or the white part, which is called the pith of the orange, if you don’t like how that tastes. What you’re left with are chunks of orange that you can easily peel off the rind and eat, so chow down and enjoy the fruits of your labor without making a mess!

The next time you reach for an orange be sure to try this technique and definitely check out the video to see how it’s properly done because once you see it, it’ll stick with you forever.

The 7 Easiest Ways To Get Rid Of Side and Back Fat. #5 Is The Best.

There are several different types of body fat but one is far and away the absolute worst kind; belly fat. That’s because people who have excess abdominal fat around their sides, back, and waistlines are at a much greater risk for developing a number of serious health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease.

Also known as visceral fat (other alternatives include spare tire or beer gut) abdominal fat is located deeper in the body where it mushes up against, and sometimes even covers, organs. When this occurs the fat may end up causing bad things to happen as it leads to inflammation and interference with proper organ function. Men in particular are at an increased risk for accumulating abdominal visceral fat, but many women are also at risk for it as well. Those with excess fat located anywhere in the mid-section region need to be aware of the dangers it poses and do their best to cut down on it.

Love handles and back fat are equally as damaging to health and wellness, yet for many people those areas and the stomach are the hardest to trim down and tone up. While there is no magic cure, there are some tricks you can use to your advantage which make the process easier and the results more pronounced. Exercising and balanced nutrition are still the key to losing weight and getting in shape, but there are other things you can be doing to help your body.

The accompanying video covers ten scientifically based home remedies that are useful for targeting and removing belly, side, and back fat. Some of them are covered below, but be sure to check out the video for more information and the rest of the tips!

This Guy Places Spaghetti In A Cupcake Tray. When He’s Done I Can’t Stop Drooling!

Spaghetti and cupcakes are two classic food items that are universally loved and eaten by mostly everyone. Spaghetti is one of the easiest dishes to make, all you need to do is throw a pot of salted water on the stove until it boils and then add in the noodles. Cupcakes are a little more fickle to bake, but with this recipe you don’t have to worry about them coming out wrong. Thanks to the Epic Meal Time video you can cook these at home and watch how each step is done. The lasagna cupcakes make a surprisingly tasty twist out of their more typical namesakes and after watching this you will want to make a batch asap!

All you need is a muffin tray, a frying pan and 2 large saucepans or pots. The ingredients list is as follows; one 8 ounce package of spaghetti, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 pound of ground sausage, ¼ cup of melted butter, 2 eggs, ½ cup of Parmesan cheese, 2 packs of bacon, 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.

Start by chopping all the bacon into small bits and pieces then fry until crispy. Set aside half of the bacon bits for the spaghetti and add the ground sausage to the other half of the bacon still in the saucepan and cook over medium heat until well done. Drain the grease, add a can of tomato sauce, and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Take the spaghetti and boil then drain when done. Mix the melted butter in with the spaghetti and set aside. Take a small bowl and mix the eggs and Parmesan cheese together first, then add it to the spaghetti along with the bacon bits, and mix it well before allowing it to cool. Scoop some spaghetti into each holder on a muffin tray, twist and twirl the noodles so they form a nest in the tin. Wet your finger tips with water and scoop up a bit of ricotta cheese.

Then, press it down into the middle of each spaghetti cupcake and add a spoonful of meat sauce over it so that it’s covered. The last step is to add the mozzarella cheese and then you bake it in the oven for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

When making these next level treats your kitchen will be filled with the mouth watering aromas of bacon, melted cheeses, and sausage, so expect some stray family members to wander in. Check out the video for more details.

She Slices an X Into An Onion And Puts It In The Oven For 30 Minutes. When She Takes It Out WOW!

If you have ever enjoyed a delicious blooming onion then you’ll love this healthy version of the deep fried favorite. The oven baked recipe is simple and easy to prepare, calling for onions, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and optional salt and pepper. It comes out of the oven tender, full of flavor, and makes a nice colorful addition to any dish it’s served with. Below is the onion flower recipe!

Start by gathering the ingredients; 4 red onions, 3 Tbsp. olive oil, 2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. If you plan on serving this as a side dish with other food on a plate it is best to use smaller sized red onions and if it’s an appetizer then larger ones will do. Peel the onion and slice off the the bottom root part so that it can be set down flat without rolling around! Carefully cut down the center, but be sure not to cut all the way through, you want to leave about half an inch uncut so that the pieces stay together!

Then cut it in half again so you have 4 pieces, and finally cut each of those in half so you end up with a total of 8 segments, all joined together at the bottom. Place the onions in a bowl, pour the olive oil and balsamic vinegar over, and toss them until they are well coated. After, transfer all four onions onto a greased baking dish, spreading them out evenly so they have room to cook. Drizzle the remaining oil and vinegar on and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake at 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes. When time is up take them out, remove the foil, and then bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.

When they come out of the oven the onions should be “blooming” and will have opened up in similar fashion to that of a flower’s petals unfolding. They will be crisp on the outside and tender, juicy, and flavorful on the inside. Onions get sweeter when baked at high heat and these taste just as good as they look!
