Kissing bugs may sound all sweet and innocent but they’re anything but that. The nasty little things are actually parasitic and even deadly in some cases because they spread Chagas disease to both humans and animals. More and more people in South America and the US are increasingly contracting the once rare parasitic infection and it’s now estimated that over 300,000 people are currently infected in the US alone. In the state of Texas about 400 dogs have died as a result of Chagas, as dogs are among the most susceptible to the disease.
The insect responsible for all of this death and disease, Kissing bugs, are known by their scientific name “Triatomine Bugs.” They operate by biting sleeping people and animals around the eyes and mouth areas because they feed on blood. Then, when their feces comes into contact with either the bite area or a mucous membrane like an eye, they pass the parasite known as Trypanosoma Cruzi to their victim. The parasite is spread this way because it lives in the bug’s feces and that happens to be the main way in which it enters a host’s body. As if that wasn’t already nasty enough, dogs can contract Chagas in additional ways, such as by eating either the bugs or infected animal feces. Chagas isn’t only disgusting in the way that it’s spread, but also in the way that it affects its victims. Most of the time people or animals who contract the disease don’t even know they have it until it’s progressed to a later, more serious stage. In some cases it’s asymptomatic and there are no symptoms whatsoever until a sudden serious one appears seemingly out of nowhere. That’s why it’s being called the “silent killer” and people are being urged to familiarize themselves the signs and symptoms of it, which are listed below:
-swollen abdomen
-confusion, weakness
-lack of coordination
-seizures or jerky movements
-loss of appetite
-diarrhea
-depression, lethargy -increased heart rate -congestive heart failure
Many of the above symptoms are quite common for other diseases so thankfully there are tests available that can detect Chagas. When the disease is found early enough it can usually be successfully treated and any of its harmful side-effects lessened.
In addition, there are preventative measures you can take to limit your pets exposure to the bugs. It’s not just dogs who are susceptible, any animal that spends time outdoors is at risk for contracting it, especially in the southern regions of the USA. Here are several things that you can do to decrease the overall risk that kissing bugs pose to your pets:
-Remove wood, brush, and rock piles near your house or yard, the bugs prefer these areas
-Keep pets in at night since the bugs are nocturnal
-Seal up holes in window screens and cracks in crawl or storage spaces
-Elevate outdoor dog houses off the ground
-Try to place any outdoor/yard lights away from the house, they attract bugs
If you keep your house and yard clean and in line with the above points you can greatly reduce the risk of exposure to pets and yourself. This Mom Is Recording Her Children When She Notices Something Terrifying! This Is Scary!
When I gave birth to my children I followed all the child safety prescriptions to make my home “child-proof”. Although, you can’t assure 100% safety, as accidents do occur, there are many things that are 100% preventable.

Gavin is now in high school; he and his parents agreed to post this horrific video, since it had a happy ending, but more importantly for prevention purposes. In watching this entire footage you will hear parents who were not as lucky, and about an industry that has been extremely negligent, when cordless, inexpensive blinds are available and ready for sale. One cooler on a neighbor’s porch probably wouldn’t attract much attention, but several dotting the neighborhood piqued one woman’s interest. When Tracy Beaves, who lives in Oklahoma in a town called The Village, noticed several Styrofoam containers on people’s front porches she was naturally curious as to why they were there.
It turned out that one homeowner had decided to put out a cooler full of ice cold water bottles for the delivery people who were working outside in the oppressive heat. At the time, the area was experiencing a days long heatwave that showed no signs of relenting. Nevertheless, all of the letter carriers and delivery workers in the area had to go on with their jobs no matter what the weather. Providing them with a convenient and refreshing bottle of water was a simple and kind act that many people were more than happy to do.
Loving the thoughtful idea herself, Tracy decided to place a cooler full of beverages outside on her porch as well for anyone stopping by who might be in need of a drink. After all, when the weather heats up and it gets dangerously hot outside, it’s important to try and stay as cool and comfortable as humanly possible. To do that, the best thing a person can do is to drink lots of water and keep hydrated.
As a news report on the practice shows, the kind gesture didn’t stop with Tracy. Many other homeowners in her neighborhood also chose to put out coolers and the delivery carriers were more than grateful and thankful for it. Hopefully in the coming summer months this trend will catch on and spread all over the country. It’s a wonderful idea and a good way to pay it forward!

Using Only 3 Ingredients She Chefs Up The Perfect Cheesecake. The Final Result Is INCREDIBLE
Want to learn how to quickly whip up an easy, tasty, gourmet cheesecake? If you answered yes, then you have to check out this delicious three-ingredient cheesecake soufflé. All that it takes is 3 eggs, 120 grams of white chocolate, and 120 grams of softened cream cheese. The recipe’s total preparation time is about an hour or so and you’ll get 6 servings out of it.
First preheat the oven to 338°F (170°C) and separate the whites from the eggs, place them in a bowl, and keep it refrigerated so that the meringue is more stable later on when you use them. Break up the chocolate into pieces and melt it using a double boiler over hot water.
Once it’s completely melted add the cream cheese to it, and after that stir in the egg yolks, making sure to mix it up really well. In a separate bowl whip the cold egg whites with an electric blender. Whip until firm peaks form and if it’s thick enough you should be able to turn the bowl over without any sliding out.
Take a spatula and slowly begin adding the meringue into the cream cheese batter, start with about 1/3 of it, and mix well. Add in half of the rest, mix well again, and then finish adding in the meringue.
Line a round cake pan with parchment paper and rub some oil or butter onto it so that later on the cake will slide right off and you’ll lessen the chances of it cracking. Pour the batter into the cake pan, then drop it lightly on the counter to raise any air bubbles out of it.
Place the cake pan on a baking sheet, then pour some hot water into the baking sheet, and stick the pair in the oven. Bake for 15 minutes at 338°F, 15 minutes at 320°F, then turn off the oven but keep baking with the remaining heat for a further 15 minutes. When time is up, remove from the oven and place it on a wire cake rack until it completely cools.
Now you can serve your freshly baked, white chocolate, soufflé cheesecake either right away or chill it in the fridge, which will make it slightly hard. Dress it up with a dusting of powdered sugar, whipped cream, fruit, a brushing of your favorite jam, chocolate syrup, or whatever you’re craving!
